A Carousel Grows in Brooklyn

A Carousel Grows in Brooklyn

My parents both hail from Warren, Ohio, where they rode on this very same carousel as children at Idora Park in Youngstown, Ohio. Jane Walentas and her husband, David, purchased the carousel in 1984, and have since brought it to Brooklyn where it has been painstakingly restored. Today, Jane’s Carousel runs in mint condition in Brooklyn Bridge Park, DUMBO Brooklyn, in a modern glass-box-home designed by French architect Jean Nouvel. My daughter will carry on the tradition her grandparents shared more than a half-century ago.

*UPDATE*: For my daughter’s Birthday, we took her and a friend to Jane’s Carousel. It was a windy, rainy, spring day, which made being inside the Carousel’s glass box all the more magical.

I love the printed tickets, they resemble old-time trading cards.

Jane and David Walentas can be found most days reveling in their creation.
