Weeks 44, 45 & 46, the year’s end is nearing. I am coming closer to my twelve month marker in this healing ritual that has become my way of being. It seems simpler now, this taking good care of myself through healthy eating, at almost a year in. After years of suffering almost daily headaches, the decision to cure my headaches and thyroid disorder set me on this path. As James Clear says in his New York Times bestselling book, Atomic Habits, “The seed of every habit is a single, tiny decision.” I am so thankful for that tiny decision, and for all of the steps that lead me to find the bean protocol and to embark on my path to healing.
My healthy foods repertoire will continue to expand as I learn new insights every day. One of my favorite podcasts about healthy eating is Dr. Mark Hyman’s, The Doctor’s Farmacy. (thank you, Ashley!) That we must eat healthy is a truth we’ve all been fed. But which foods are best for our optimal health feels vague, especially in a culture that glorifies processed and unhealthy foods at every turn. Sugar really is the enemy our bodies have learned to crave, a “recreational drug” according to Dr. Hyman, and the marketing culture knows that all too well. “New research shows insulin resistance, or what I call diabesity (from eating too many carbs and sugar and not enough fat), is one of the major factors that starts the brain-damage cascade that robs the memory of millions of people.” (Click on Dr. Hyman’s quote for a link to the podcast episode.) Science is studying the connections between sugar and Alzheimer’s Disease. What we eat can improve our health span.
“Habits are the path through which we achieve internal change to become something new,” thank you, Mr. Clear. The choice to change my diet to heal my brain has led to a world of difference. The feelings of more clarity and the rootedness that arise from a plant and animal based diet are worth every new habit. Those new habits have led to internal change. I welcome the new that I am becoming! Happy Midwinter 2023, on December 21 at 10:27 p.m. EST!
So happy to have found Heidelberg Bread Company, delicious bread with no added sugar!

Finally remembering to show the laundry sheets I’ve been using. No plastics and no fragrance!
