Cecil Beaton: The New York Years at the Museum of the City of New York is one of those must-see shows. An exhibit chronicling the British-born artists’ periods of extended stay in New York from the 20’s to the 60’s, it includes his inspiring fashion and high-society portrait photography, costumes, dresses and sets he designed for theater and film, drawings, watercolors and books. As a fashion photographer for Vogue and Vanity Fair he chronicled a rich, famous and glamorous clientele who appeared to travel unscathed through the grueling years of the Great Depression and World War II. He was relentlessly prolific and had a wildly exuberant talent. He was a man before his time. I hope you can make some and go and experience his exquisite oeuvre for yourself!
