Japan’s Gift: The National Cherry Blossom Festival

Japan’s Gift: The National Cherry Blossom Festival

We celebrate The National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC as we usher in Spring. The first 3,000 Cherry Blossom trees arrived as a gift from Tokyo’s Mayor Yukio Ozaki in 1912 to the city of Washington, DC and we celebrate their Centennial this year. I had an early peek when I was in town a few weeks ago and the faintest touches of pink were just beginning to appear. In years past I have walked around the Tidal Basin enshrouded in pink and I can tell you it is a majestical sight to behold. I know I am ever grateful for this gift of beauty from Japan.
