‘And They’re Off!’ The Gideon Putnam Hotel

While visiting dear friends in historic Saratoga Springs recently we toured The Gideon Putnam Hotel nestled in Saratoga Spa State Park. The State Park offers a host of family activities surrounding the hotel including the famous Roosevelt Baths & Spa, Victoria Pool, and Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The Greenbrier of West Virginia kept coming to mind as I toured the grand Georgian halls of the Gideon Putnam Hotel with its reading rooms and meeting rooms defined by bright bold colors. Yes, Dorothy Draper was the interior designer of the Putnam as well as the Greenbrier! According to Historic Hotels of America, “A multiyear, multimillion dollar renovation effort is returning the Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa to the grandness and style it was famous for during Saratoga Springs’ heyday as the country’s premier spa town.” Next visit I’m going to hit the Spa!

Love the hand-painted walls in the two dining rooms by James Reynolds.

Love this “Carnival of Roses” fabric created by James Reynolds in 1942 as found in this Town&Country online article here.
